Print — menus, zine, programs, maps, postcards, etc.

Chef in Residence at Stone Barns invites innovative chefs to interpret the ingredients of Stone Barns Center and the Hudson Valley region through their unique culinary traditions. Each Resident represents a distinctive culture and gastronomic point of view, and all have faced a major COVID-related setback or restaurant closure.

The logo represents the many intersections that are the foundation of each residence.

Tradition x reinterpretation

Chef x farmer

Ancient techniques x modern technology

Prevention x intervention

Each chef’s home x the Hudson Valley

And on and on…

Shola Olunloyo

January 13th - Feb 6th

Chef Shola’s menu centered the cultural foodways at the heart of Nigerian community—and also integrated the knowledge and technique from his personal journey as a chef through Southeast Asia, East Asia, Europe and West Africa. In his own words, “the menu is not competing with tradition, it’s an evolution of tradition.”

We created individual cards for each step of the guest’s journey, and each dish that arrived at the table. When the meal was over, guests received a handmade pouch for their cards.

Omar Tate

Feb 17th - March 13th

Chef Omar’s residency took place at the intersection of food + poetry + art + history + place. In addition to menus, we created a zine as a program for “The Living Room,” the on-campus gallery. I also turned Omar’s handwriting into a font for menus, labels, and for some of the writing in the zine, so that it felt very much by hand and personal.
